Roman Barlik was born in Bydgoszcz, Poland, in 1947. He received the MSc., Ph.D. and Sc.D. degrees from the Warsaw University of Technology in 1972, 1977 and 1987 respectively. He is currently a Professor in Electrical Engineering Faculty at the Warsaw University of Technology. From 1999 to 2005 he was a Dean of this Faculty. In 1982/1983 he was a Guest Researcher with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Aachen University of Technology, Germany. He has carried out research in the field of static converters, electrical drives and industrial automation and has authored and co-authored more than 150 papers, published in refereed international and domestic journals and conference proceedings. He is co-author of the Handbook of Power Electronics. He has directed numerous research projects granted by the University, industrial companies and State Research Committee. He holds 27 Polands patents. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Member of the Academy of Engineering in Poland

Andrzej Bartoszewicz received the Ph.D. degree from the Lodz University of Technology, Lodz, Poland, in 1993. He is currently a Professor in control systems with the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Department of Computer and Control Engineering, the Head of the Electric Drive and Industrial Automation Unit and the Director of the Institute of Automatic Control. He has authored three monographs and over 320 articles, primarily in the field of discrete time sliding mode control, inventory management, and congestion control in data transmission networks. He is a Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Vice-President of the Lódz Branch of the Academy.

His research focuses mainly on issues related to the use of power electronics systems in the power network and the elimination of the negative impact of distributed energy sources on the electric grid.

Elżbieta Bogalecka received the M.Sc., Ph.D., and D.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Gdańsk University of Technology, Gdańsk, Poland, in 1976, 1987, and 1998, respectively. She is Professor with the Electrical and Control Engineering in Gdansk University of Technology, Poland. She has authored/coauthored more than 100 journal papers, conference proceedings and book chapters. Her research interests include mathematical modeling and microprocessor control of electrical drives and in particular on the algorithms of sensorless control of a double-fed machine (generator in a wind power plant), effective and safe wind power plant control in variable wind conditions, control of renewable sources, optimal hybrid power plant dimensioning and energy management algorithms, wind farm power forecasting using a neural network.

Stefan Brock received his Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees from Poznan University of Technology, Poland, in 1996 and 2014. Currently, he is working at Poznan University of Technology in the Control and Industrial Electronics Division, Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence as a professor. He is an author or co-author of more than 100 scientific papers. He is a member of the IEEE and Polish Society for Theoretical and Applied Electrical Engineering. His research interests include: modelling and control of electrical drives, motion control with soft computing and machine learning methods, and sliding mode control of direct drives with permanent magnet motor. In particular, his work involves a hybrid sliding-mode control with computational intelligence methods.

Andrzej Dębowski, a retired professor at the LUT University in Łódź, is currently employed at UTP University in Bydgoszcz (Poland). Andrzej deals with research on applications of control theory in electric traction drives and industrial automation systems. A special field of his interest is the study of the feasibility of implementing some selected non-linear, adaptive or robust control algorithms in practice. He also has experience in modeling various industrial objects and identifying their parameters, for rapid prototyping of control systems. He is the author of the original concept of a state stimulator (dual to the well-known concept of state observer) enabling indirect control of objects with incomplete measurement information about important state variables.

In 1977, he joined WUT, where he is currently a Full Professor and holds the position of the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Bogusław Grzesik (M'96) received the M.S. degree from the Silesian University of Technology (SUT), Gliwice, Poland, in 1967, and the Ph.D. degree in power electronics in 1973, and the D.Sc. (Eng.) degree in power electronics both from the same university.,Starting in 1967, he worked as a Research Assistant, then as an Assistant Professor, and finally, as an Associate Professor at the Department of Power Electronics, Electric Drive and Robotics, SUT. He is the Author of more than 100 articles, several textbooks, and holds 12 patents. His research interests include geometrical models of power electronic converters and their dynamics, applications of superconductivity, and medical application of power electronics (an artificial heart).

Jarosław Guziński (SM’13) received M.Sc., Ph.D., and D.Sc. degrees from the Electrical Engineering Department, Technical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk, Poland, in 1994, 2000, and 2011, respectively. In 2021 he has been nominated to full professors position at the same university. He is currently the vice-dean for research the Head of the Department of Electric Drives and Energy Conversion at Electrical and Control Engineering Faculty at Gdańsk University of Technology. He obtained scholarships in the Socrates/Erasmus program, and was granted with three scientific projects supported by the Polish government in the area of sensorless control and diagnostic for drives with LC filters. He has authored and coauthored more than 170 journal and conference papers including two books. He is an Inventor of some solutions for speed sensorless drives with LC filters (six patents). His research interests include sensorless control of electrical machines, multiphase drives (five-phase), inverter output filters, renewable energy, and electrical vehicles.,Dr. Guziński was awarded by Polish Academy of Sciences – Division IV: Engineering Sciences for his monograph “Electric drives with induction motors and inverters output filters - selected problems,” in 2012.

Grzegorz Iwanski (Senior Member, IEEE) received the M.Sc. degree in automatic control and robotics and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), Warsaw, Poland, in 2003 and 2005, respectively.,From January 2006 to December 2008, he was a Research Worker involved in an international project within the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Union (EU). In 2012 and 2013, he joined the Renewable Electrical Energy System (REES) Team, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Terrassa, Spain, within the framework of the scholarship of Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education. Since 2009, he has been an Assistant Professor with the Institute of Control and Industrial Electronics, WUT, where he became an Associate Professor, in 2019. He is a coauthor of one monograph, three book chapters, and about 70 journal articles and conference papers. He teaches courses on power electronics, drives, and power conversion systems. His research interests include variable and adjustable speed power generation systems, photovoltaic and energy storage systems, and automotive power electronics and drives. He provided two plenary lectures on IEEE technically sponsored international conferences, such as Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER 15) and Joint International Conference on Optimization of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Aegean Conference on Electrical Machines and Power (OPTIM-ACEMP 17).

Marek Jasinski (Senior Member, IEEE) received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in the discipline of electrical engineering from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), and the Habilitation (D.Sc.) degree, in 2018. He has been a professor with WUT, since 2019. He was an Associate Professor, from 2008 to 2019. His research focuses on the control of drives and renewable energy sources. He was as a Consultant with the Aalborg University VESTAS Power Program, in 2009. He had an Internship with RWTH-Aachen University–E.ON Energy Research Centre Power Generation and Storage Systems in Germany, from 2013 to 2014. In 2020, he spent one month as a Temporary Associate Research Scientist with the Smart Grid Centre, A&M Texas University, Qatar (TAMUQ). His research focuses on the control of energy processing by means of power electronics intelligent converters (E-PIC) under distorted voltage and higher grid impedance, and optimizing the topology, control, and reliability of E-PICs. He received the awards from WUT, in 2000, the IEEE PS, the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers, and ABB, in 2005.He received the Hall of Fame Award from IEEE YP, in 2019. He was the Chair of the IES Student and Young Professional Activity Committee. He was the Chair of the IES–Power Electronics Joint Chapter IEEE PS, from 2008 to 2012, and an Associate Editor of IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine, in 2016, IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Industrial Electronics, in 2019, and IEEE IES Industrial Electronics Technology News, in 2020. He has received several WUT Rector’s Awards and other recognitions for his outstanding research results, including a first prize for scientific and technical achievements from the Prime Minister of Poland, in 2017.

His research interests include: application of methods based on artificial intelligence to electrical drives (neural networks, fuzzy logic, etc.), adaptive control, optimization of control structures using nature-inspired techniques, hardware implementations (FPGA, DSP, microcontrollers) of algorithms.

Marian P. Kazmierkowski (Life Fellow, IEEE) received the M.S., Ph.D., and Dr. Sci. degrees in electrical engineering from the Institute of Control and Industrial Electronics (ICIE), Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland, in 1968, 1972, and 1981, respectively. In 1974, he had a three month internship at Siemens in Vienna, and from 1980 to 1984, he was with the RWTH Aachen as a Scholar of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. From 1987 to 2008, he was the Director of ICIE. He has been the Head of the Centre of Excellence in Power Electronics and Intelligent Control for Energy Conservation, ICIE, since 2003. He is currently a Full Professor with ICIE and a Consultant with the Electrotechnical Institute (IEL), Warsaw. In 2007, he was elected as a Corresponding Member and in 2017 as a Full Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He received Honorary Doctorate degrees from Aalborg University, Denmark, in 2004; the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, Toulouse, France, in 2010; and in Poland from the University of Zielona Gora in 2012, the Bialystok University of Technology in 2017, and the Lublin University of Technology in 2018. He was a recipient of the Dr. Ing. Eugene Mittelmann Achievement Award from the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society in 2005 and a SIEMENS Research Award in Poland in 2006. He was also a recipient of the 2017 IEEE Medal in Power Engineering, USA, and the 2018 EPE Outstanding Achievement Award, from the European Power Electronics Association. He was the Vice President of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society from 1999 to 2001 and the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics from 2004 to 2006.

Teresa Orlowska-Kowalska (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the Wroclaw University of Technology (WUT), Wroclaw, Poland, in 1976 and 1990, respectively.,Since 1993, she has been a Professor of electrical engineering (since 2004, Full Professor) and the Head of the Electrical Drives Control Chair at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, WUT. During 2002–2019, she was the Director of the Institute of Electrical Machines, Drives, and Measurements, WUT. She is the author and coauthor of more than 400 journal papers and conference proceedings, two textbooks, two books, and 50 chapters in monographs. Her research interests include controlled electrical drives, applications of the observer theory and artificial intelligence methods in sensorless control of ac drives, control methods of the drive systems with elastic couplings, diagnostics and fault-tolerant control methods for ac drives using signal processing, and neural network techniques.,Prof. Orlowska-Kowalska has been a member of the Electrical Engineering Committee of the Polish Academy of Science (since 1996), the Council of Provosts of IV Division of the Polish Academy of Science (2011–2018), and international steering committees of a few well-known conferences. During 2004–2014, she was an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics. She is a member of the Editorial Boards of a few international journals and Editor-in-Chief for Power Electronics and Drives journal. She serves as a reviewer of many IEEE, IET, Elsevier, MDPI, Taylor and Francis, SAGE, and other scientific journals.

Jacek Rąbkowski (Senior Member, IEEE) received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Warsaw University of Technology, Poland, in 2000 and 2005, respectively.,In 2004, he joined the Institute of Control and Industrial Electronics, Warsaw University of Technology, where he is currently a Professor in power electronics. From 2010 to 2013, he was with the Laboratory of Electrical Energy Conversion, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, and the Power Electronics Group, Tallin University of Technology, Tallin, Estonia, from 2015 to 2016. He is the coauthor of over 190 scientific papers and two books. His current research interests include power converters based on wide band-gap devices: topologies, design aspects, pulse width modulation techniques, and, especially, gate and base drivers. Moreover, he also works in area of medium voltage power conversion and recently on power converters for EV charging.,Dr. Rabkowski is a member of the European Power Electronics and Drives Association, involved with the International Scientific Committee. From 2012 to 2015, he was the Chairperson of the Joint Industrial Electronics Society/Power Electronics Society Chapter in the frame of the IEEE Poland Section. He has been an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, since 2015.

Robert Smolenski (M’01) was born in Krosno Odrzanskie, Poland, in 1973. He received the M.Sc., Ph.D., and Postdoctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Zielona Góra, where he is currently an Associate Professor and the Deputy Head of the Institute of Electrical Engineering. He is the Deputy Chair of the Joint IEEE IES/PELS Poland Chapter and a Member of the Electromobility Board of the National Centre for Research and Development. He has over twenty years of experience in the development of practical solutions to EMC and PQ related problems. He has been involved in the realization of many national and international research projects. His research interest includes issues linked with the assurance of power quality and the interoperability of the power systems consisting power electronic interfaces and control arrangements.

His research interests include control of synchronous permanent-magnet motors and switched reluctance motors, where control systems, the nonlinear, adaptive, and robust control algorithms, as well as computational intelligence methods are applied.,Dr. Zawirski is a Member of the European Power Electronics and Drives (EPE), and a Member of the International Steering Committees of a number of European conferences. He was a General Chairman of the 13th Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference EPE-PEMC 2008, held in Poznań.
